PLSC, Polish Lowland Sheepdog

Welcome to the PLSC website

The PLSC hope you enjoy your visit, we aim to be as informative and helpful as possible.

The Polish Lowland Sheepdog (PON) was introduced into the UK in 1985 by Megan Irwing who’s kennel club affix is Megsflocks, Megan also founded the PLS Club. Megan has since married and is now Megan Myfanwy Cook

The breed, because of the dedication and protectiveness of the first importers and breeders, quickly developed an acceptable gene pool of sound healthy Polish Lowlands which earned respect in the show world gaining Championship Show status much sooner than many imported breeds introduced into this country. Also from the onset the PLSC imposed a very strict Code of Ethics within the club rules. The majority of PONs are happy pets living in family homes as companions. Obedience and agility has become very popular, also another important role the PON has become involved in is PAT and therapy work, this involves visiting hospitals, nursing and residential homes and specialised centres.

Our Club prides itself in its efficient Welfare/Rehoming organisation, fortunately very few have needed "rescuing" due to the puppies being placed in suitable homes, with many having breeding endorsements/restrictions placed on their KC registrations, this has prevented indiscriminate breeding and population explosion that many breeds in this country have experienced.

Since the formation of the PLSC a breed Historian/Archivist has been appointed. The club holds a comprehensive selection of files containing pedigrees and photographs of PONs from importation to the present day. Also on file are copies of all the KC/BVA Hip Score and Eye Test Certificates and other health data forwarded by members/owners, thus to enable information regarding hereditary disease and health conditions to be collated for the benefit of the breed's future. Again the use of the KC endorsements facility placed on the registration forms by dedicated breeders will have helped to prevent the escalation of hereditary problems within our breed.

Photographs of winning PONs at club Open and Championship shows since 1993 are available, along with all the other important and interesting archived information.

The PLSC is also very proud of our "CLUB SHOP", this is another popular feature and is "OPEN" at all club events. There is a wonderful collection of PON memorabilia for the enthusiast costing a few pence upwards.

A super colour newsletter, The "Nizinny", is published twice yearly and we encourage contributions from our members.

Fun, social, KC Good Citizen, obedience, agility, heelwork to music. clicker training, sheeping days and educational seminars are all events that are organised by the dedicated band of Officers, Committee and volunteers, as well as the PLSC Championship Show, Open Show and Judging Assessments each year for the show enthusiasts and fanciers.

The membership vote at the Annual General Meeting to elect the Officers and Committee to run the club on behalf of its members, rules and new policies are addressed and agreed, our AGM is open to all members.

Hopefully all aspects are covered as you navigate around our site. Do contact us if you have any questions, queries or suggestions.
